I will be presenting at North Central at 7:00 as part of the Socrates Cafe series on torture. Please come show your support. Also, this would be a great opportunity to bring a friend who knows little about the crisis!

Nicholas Kristof, a New York Times Columnist, has traveled to Darfur six times and won a Pulitzer Prize-his second-for traveling at great personal risk around Darfur and Chad to report on genocide. He has been described as the person the Janjaweed militia, responsible for the genocide, most wants to kill. At LUMA, he will talk about what he has seen, the people he has met and how to stop the slaughter. Tickets are required for this event. You MUST make your own reservation to attend. For reservations: luma@luc.edu or 312.915.7630.

Wow! I can't believe all the cool things we have going on! We have connected with a syanagogue who is interested in a long-term humanitarian fundraising and awareness campaign. We also have some new members from North Central who are planning some on-campus events and would like our help! Watch the website and your email for details on participating and planning events. We are continuing to schedule film viewings and discussions as well. Please plan on attending the March meeting to find out current updates on the crisis, and what you can do!

Jennifer W has graciously offered the use of her apartment for a film viewing of The Lost Boys of Sudan. This film is not directly about the crisis in Darfur. It is a story of two boys orphaned during the Civil War in Sudan, who eventually were resettled in the United States. Its incredibly beneficial for us to get a more comprehensive view of the overall state of affairs in Sudan, as well as to gain perspective on the lives and culture of the Sudanese. I hope you will join us for this film! Because this event will take place at a member's home, you MUST rsvp "yes" before receiving her address. She is located in Bufffalo Grove, zipcode 60089 Also, because this is a home, I am capping the event for 10 members. Please reserve your spot early, and update your RSVP if your plans change.

From the North Central Girls: Hello! Hope this is not too late. Below is the tentative schedule for where members of the Model UN team will be located throughout the day across campus protesting the genocide in Darfur. We will be protesting non-stop from 8am until approximately 6pm. We will be located at Kaufman (the dining hall) at meal times, and throughout the day in front of Old Main, in the White Activities Center, and in the Boilerhouse. I will attach a map for these locations as well. It would be helpful for groups to bring signs. We have made several but I am unsure if we have made enough for more people than our original group. I've attached the handout we will be distributing on half-sheets of paper. We may have extras of these or we can also make more copies throughout the day. It will not be necessary to call North Central about joining the protest. Please join us whenever is convenient for you. We hope this generates a good response. Schedule: 8-905 KAUFMAN Kelsey, Stacy, Amy, Dijana, Whit 905-925 IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN Stacy, Kelsey, Ryan, Whit 925-1025 BOILERHOUSE Ryan, Stacy, Whit WAC Kelsey, Dijana 1025-1045 IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN Stacy, Annie, Ryan, Dijana 1045-1145 BOILERHOUSE Annie, Dijana WAC Stacy KAUFMAN Ryan 1145-1205 IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN Stacy, Annie, Ryan, Dijana 1205-105 BOILERHOUSE Stacy WAC Annie KAUFMAN Dijana 105-125 IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN Melissa 125-225 BOILERHOUSE Morgan WAC Melissa 225-245 IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN Morgan, Melissa, Dijana 245-345 BOILERHOUSE Ann, Melissa WAC Morgan, Dijana 345-405 IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN Morgan, Ann, Melissa, Dijana 405-505 BOILERHOUSE Morgan, Melissa WAC Ann, Dijana 505-525 IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN Morgan, Ann, Melissa, Dijana 525-625 BOILERHOUSE Ann WAC Melissa, Dijana KAUFMAN Morgan Campus Map: (We will be at numbers 9, 10, 12, & 24) http://www.noctrl.ed u/x8880.xml Thanks! We are sticking with the second Monday of the month. We will also be returning to Naperville, and have a few leads on locations that can accomodate our growing group! We had a great meeting in January and are really ready to rock and roll. As a side note, we are also scheduling film viewings. I have a short video from Save Darfur Coalition, and also a copy of the Darfur Diaries. We can schedule a small get together at your house, your church group etc. We will show one of the films, and have a brief discussion. Please contact me if you are interested in hosting a gathering.

Member, Jennifer W, has brought to my attention a movie out about the Lost Boys of Sudan. It is called "God Grew Tired of Us" and won both Grand Jury and audience awards at the Sundance film festival. We are organizing a trip to go see this movie, on Sunday January 28th. The theatre (The Music Box in downtown Chicago) has not yet posted (I also called) times for next weekend. However, this Sunday has both 5:45 and 7:45 viewings. If it plays at 5:45, I think we will shoot for that one, because I know most of us don't like to be out late on Sunday evening. Exact details will be posted soon, but please RSVP to let me know if you are interested in coming. We can also plan to carpool or take the train in together.

We willl be moving our meetings to Batavia, which we hope is a more central location. We will sticking with the second Monday of every month. Meetings will now start at 7:30. We really had some good discussion and are making great strides. Lots of fantastic plans in the works! Hope you can join us for our next meeting! Thank you to member Becky, for finding us a new meeting location in Batavia! My understanding is Bears fans do not flock to Caribou Coffee!
